cci-about

Cultural Communications, Inc. is the only nonprofit organization that supports vulnerable populations of youth in the metropolitan D.C. area with an extended day/extended year program focused on cultural sensitivity and the arts. Participation in high-quality and engaging extended learning opportunities has been proven to improve school attendance, academic achievement, graduation and post-secondary success rates and attitudes toward learning. However, vulnerable youth from disenfranchised communities are also in need of culturally-sensitive activities that support their critical social, emotional, and developmental needs.  As a part of this work, Cultural Communications helps at-risk students to think more broadly about their educational, college, and career choices.

Afterschool Boot Camps

cci-after-schoolCultural Communications offers Afterschool Boot Camps to a core group of public and charter schools throughout the D.C. area. The curriculum focuses on academic acceleration and extracurricular enrichment activities that engage and inspire youth ages 12-18. Volunteers from community-based organizations and administrators and teachers from public and charter schools provide unique programming options to channel student interest in fashion and music into career-oriented pursuits in the communication, event production, and media arts fields. Each year, these activities culminate into what has become a fixture in the D.C. area,  the Catwalk Classic, a premier performing arts showcase that serves as a creative outlet for more than 300 students each year.

 Career Training and Internship Programs

cci-after-schoolThe goal of Cultural Communications’ career training and internship programs is to prepare at-risk youth for productive lives by preparing them for career-oriented educational and career paths. We provide career-oriented training and guidance, unpaid as well as subsidized internships and work experience opportunities, as well as job search and placement assistance.

 Tutoring and Mentoring Supports

cci-tutoring-mentoringCultural Communications offers academic extended day/extended year tutoring services that are conveniently located at our partnership schools and various community-based locations. Our program has a high level of effectiveness in increasing student academic achievement, attendance, discipline, promotion, and graduation rates.  Educational enrichment and homework assistance are provided as a part of our youth engagement activities. In addition, through our mentoring component, volunteers, school administrators, teachers, and counselors nurture healthy youth development by encouraging positive peer and adult relationships and by connecting with students through a wide range of communication, event production, and media arts experiences.
